Stromberg Carb HELP!

I need help! I have a '59 190sl that is fitted with a Stromberg carb. I know, it should have the dual Solexes; I'm still working on that. Anyway, the plastic oil reservoir on the carb broke off at the neck, and I need to replace it. Where in the world can I find a new one, and how difficult will it be to replace it. Thanks!

Do a search on "Stromberg" - Dr DKW had something on this exact problem last month.

Try these guys, I had to get a choke coil that went on my 1976 Stromberg 175CDT, they were good, and way cheaper than the Mercedes dealership.

Good luck,

If you're talking about the mid '70s sidedraft Stromberg, with the ivory colored plastic reservoir damper, as fitted to the 220 - 230 4cyl cars, that plastic reservoir damper assy is still availible from Mercedes. I think it's about $65.

Mark,

I think we are talking about the same carb. It is a 175CD Stromberg. I dont know much about the model, except that it is not what is supposed to be on my '59 190sl. I ordered the reservoir from the shop in England -- $40 + or -.

It seems to operate just fine, even without the damper res. The only issue that I have noticed is that when the engine first starts, it idles normally at first and then idles higher and higher. After several minutes, if you press the gas, it drops back down to normal. Dont know it this is a problem or the way it was designed. What do you think "Dr."?

Thanks,
Chad

That's pretty much like my friends '72 220
runs with its 175CD carb. These carbs have a cold starting valve which performs the same duty as an automatic choke. It will idle on a 'fast-idle' cam until the engine/carb thermotstat warms up enough to drop off the fast idle.
