W123 84' 300D Tranny Flush - Didnt Measure
Hello all
I replaced the transmission pan gasket and filter on my 300D, but I never measured how much I removed. Does anyone have an idea how much is retained in the pan? Also, should I go the extra step in draining the torque converter? I've heard mixed things that it can be bad for your transmission, is that an old wives tale? Thank you |

How many miles on it before the change? If more that 60K then half change now and full change in 2000 miles is in order, otherwise change all the fluid now.
Yes, you need to drain the converter. |

second that , really need to change out all the fluid, or you are just mixing old with new which in my opinion defeats the purpose

To answer your question about how much fluid: Automatic trans fluid level is measured when the transmission is hot (from driving), the car is level, and the transmission shifted to "Park." some dipsticks will have a low mark for the cold fluid level position, and an upper mark for the hot fluid level position.
So put in a quart or 2 and see if you get a reading on the dipstick. Keep adding fluid, and checking the dipstick, until you get a reading near that low position. Go for a drive to get the fluid warmed up, and re-check. Add if needed. Avoid filling over the upper mark.
