Starting Issue W115 617

I have a starting problem. When I turn on the switch to the glow plug position the starter engages with the glow plugs. The car will eventually start is I wait out the glow plug heat cycle.

I’ve replaced both the switch and the glow plug relay.

I'm wondering if you have some wiring that's either melted, chewed, or rubbed through, to the point that the power supply to the glow plugs, is powering up the wire that powers the solenoid on the side of the starter.

You may have to perform an ohm test on those specific wires, and see if they are connected to each other.

Test each glow plug individually and make sure the resistance decreases down the line.

Glow plugs can short out. If the middle one is shorted, the closest two might be glowing enough to get it going after a long glow even if the furthest two don't have any power as a result of the short.
