Battery for 1972 220D

Hello,

Does anyone know the proper sized battery for a 72 220D? The current battery is about 13.5" length but it is still too short for the battery clamp to engage with it. It looks like it is short at least 1 inch. Thanks

A Group 49 - H8 is 13-15/16 length and that is too short. Might be a 95R/H9.

Could I be missing a clamp? See image.

Inasmuch as the 3L engines (& 5L+ gassers) are cranked with a Gr.49, perhaps a smaller battery tray in in order!

Not sure about the H8 or H9 but am certain they don't have much hood clearance. Whatever battery you choose make sure you have hood clearance before closing it...no need to ask how I know this!

Correct. Put a plastic cap over the top of the positive pole. The clearance is tiny. I remember seeing hoods with a small burned spot on them where the paint had burned off due to the hood contacting the top of the positive pole.

This seemed to be more common on 108s.
