M110.983 ignition timing

Gents

Just wondering if anyone has the timing data for the M110.983 engine fitted with a Bosch 0231 306 002 distributor?

I've spent the last 2 weeks working on the car, valve clearances, new plugs, new leads, new distributor cap and rotor, "warm up valve" freed up, injectors removed and cleaned in my ultrasonic cleaner, fuel trigger points adjusted to 150 degrees and heaps of other stuff.

I've set the advanced to 35 degrees (vacuum plugged) at 3500rpm, but just want to see what the spec was.

Cheers

35 or 36 degrees (vacuum plugged) at 3500rpm is about right
However your elevation is the key > if you mostly drive at a certain elevation you can try say 3 Degrees + or -
If you get Missing at Hi RPM most likely your to far advanced
If it runs doggy retarded
the Lower your elevation the more advance you can run but talking a small amount , most often get it running Good - about 2 degrees
works out > The setting all change due to Timing Parts becoming worn but your talking a small amount

Of course every single aspect related must be set correctly with basic parts all in good order :

Why are you asking does it run poorly ??? that will tell the story or are you just wondering what the Specks are ?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated
My son bought the car and it was quite sick.
Rough idle, poor engine response, surging at idle
I decided to give it a birthday. I'm a marine engineer so quite interested in this sort of thing
I couldn't find any specific data of timing advance, so thought I'd ask out of curiosity.
I've set it at about 36 degrees BTDC, and she runs well. (we live at sea level, well, not much above sea level)

********

At Sea Level you can most often run more advance if you want

Easy Quick Check : Looking for Vacuum leaks

Outside with the motor running with a garden hose and a Low Stream of water you can play the water slowly over the Motor the Intake Manifold
all the vacuum Lines everywhere they go like the brake Booster Line Etc

You have a lot of places that can leak and this way you can find them very fast < come to a leak motor will slow down Etc > no it will not hurt the motor Just avoid the distributor so you don't kill the motor > it will dry off
in a few Minutes

Just to make things clear, while it is implied not to put water on a hot engine - do not put water on a hot engine!

Also use non-chlorinated brake clearer if it's to be sprayed on or around exhaust manifolds of a running engine. Yes the m110 is cross flow, but this would apply on a m130 or earlier.

Ok, health and safety rant over.
