1970 W114 250C Lug nut size manufacturers & whitewall size

Anyone know what the lug nut size is?

I’ve got to buy tires and I read somewhere about the tires were white walled. Anyone know the width and who makes them? I think I saw some on Coker but think they are too thin.

Appreciate it!

17mm lug nut hex size.

IIRC the whitewalls were thin e.g. 3/8". Blackwall tires were also very common if the goal is to be period correct. Michelin X's were common.

You'll be somewhat limited on what you can still find in 14" with a whitewall, so if you like that look, 195/75-14 is the size you're looking for in a radial. I'm sure your local tire shop(s) can get you a set. No need to go to Coker

Thanks!!!

Yes was looking at the 195’s and I’ll see if can get me correct lug nuts too. Pricey stuff for a car that’s probably scrap but I enjoy it!

You'll probably find the wheel bolts on ebay, all day long. Nothing special about them.

Definitely get the 195's. That's the tallest tire you can buy (slightly taller than the 205's), so it's about as close as you can get to the original diameter of the bias plys = a little happier rpm's on the freeway. And be aware that there are oils in the tire rubber that will soak through the white wall and turn them brown in spots, or around the entire edge, etc. It's frustrating, but I don't think there's anything you can do these days. I never had that issue with the 2 sets of Goodyear Invicta "double-whites" that I had on the car, but this new set, by some no-name manufacturer, isn't great.

I think I’m not going whitewall. Tire size opinion change if I go that route?

Whitewall has nothing to do with tire size. In 14" diameter, a 195/75R-14 is the largest diameter tire that's available.

Look at General Altimax RT 43. They're made in 205/70 14. I've gone through about 3 sets of them in various sizes. IMO, they're a lot of tire for the price point. Go for Road Force balancing if you can afford it.

I'm a huge fan of General tires. Have been running them on my Suburban, my Rabbit Pickup, and my daughter's '02 Beetle. They're quiet, and fantastic in the rain.

If you look at the specs on a 205/60, it is just slightly smaller diameter than the 195/70R.

185/80R14 can be found in some off brands. Just be sure they are not trailer tires. I have Achilles 122 on my 250C. They might be a little tall but the narrow look is period perfect look (like bias ply tires). These would only work on 5.5 inch wide rims.

For steel wheels the lug bolt size is 12 X 21 X 1.5 mm with a ball seat. Note 21mm length is correct for steel wheels only. Febi makes fine ones, part number 1704010170. Sets of 20 can be found on eBay for $30-40.

If you want wide white wall tires, then consider glue on covers or stickers or paint. There are many choices available and I expect every w114 or VW beetle with wide white walls has snap/glue on covers.

those Bundt Wheels take Longer Lug nuts by about 1/2 inch don't try the short ones they will fail > You can use Mercedes Ml Bolts work just fine
Also you can buy the Bolts at any Parts store Dorman works fine
They make 15 inch Bundt wheels but they are rare. For 15 inch you just about have to go aftermarket but they are better the 14 inch I think however the Largest 14 Inch tires are also Ok > to each his own
