Trunk has no holes for chrome handle?
My mid-60s Euro w111 has no holes drilled for a chrome trunk handle. Did some cars come without such a handle? I can still lock and open the trunk w/o issue, just thought it was odd.

Do an image search on W111 and focus toward cars not located in the US. It will give a good indicator.

Somebody filled in the holes so they had "clean lines". Look from the inside, below the star and a few inches to each side. There should be evidence of the body work.

w111/w112 coupes/convertibles (2 doors) have a trunk handle. w110/111/w112 sedans (4 doors) have single lock/button/hook fitted on the trunk deck.
