1972 280SE 4.5 cylinder head questions

Hey folks,

I'm refreshing a 1972 Mercedes 280SE 4.5 as documented here:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/motorcycle-build.452813/page-5

I'm looking at the cylinder heads and I have a few questions.
  • 1 In the pictures attached I have corrosion in some the "blocked off" water jackets. What do you folks do for this?
  • 2 Which ones are supposed to be open and which closed?

Thanks in advance.

I believe the head gasket will determine which ones are blocked off.

Just have them resurfaced. The machine shops see this all the time and will likely clean them out.

But it is the head gasket that will block off the ones that are not needed.

If you find that you need a replacement head, I have several. -CTH
