We had the valves adjusted first thing. Also new Glow Plugs, all new fluids, filters changed...the thing didn't even have an air filter in it when we bought it (and drove it 4 hrs. home)...bad sign I suppose. Our mechanic (works only on Mercedes) said he'd never heard one clank quite as loud as this one...I dunno. He suggested the "piston slap", but didn't suggest a solution at the time. I'll ask him more this weekend.

The car has lots of power, and is actually pretty quick...the paint is in great shape, and interior is pretty good. No dash cracks, just seat wear on driver's side. I'd hate to have major engine troubles, but it's all a learning process, heh?
