They're really nitpicky about their rental cars in europe though, they look them over pretty good for any damage/issues after you bring it back. Maybe they're not that way in the UK, but in germany they're pretty anal about it.
We flaked a teeny piece of black paint off the bumper of our C220 cdi wagon we had there when unloading luggage, so my dad went under the car and found some grease, and rubbed it on the flaked off part, from more than 10cm away you'd never notice it.
Problem solved. It'd have never worked if the car wasn't black. Also goes to show how cruddy that new paint is. I saw an AMG55 super shiny black sedan in chicago last july and he had a jagged piece of paint flaked off the bottom of his drivers door roughly the size of a large pancake!
Aluminum was shining right through.
