Mine was FULL of dust. I mean full. You couldn't have crammed anymore in.

To get the cage off, what I found worked good was to:

1. Clamp motor in vise.
2. Remove metal clip that looks like it hold the cage on the motor shaft but probably isn't doing anything in actuallity.
3. Have an assistant pull up on the cage while you tap the top of the shaft with a punch and hammer.
