I'm quoting from service manual: 1. Unlock sun roof lid and take end lever out of recess. 2. After opening sun roof lid 3/4 of the way, unclip sun roof headliner at front and pull it out upward. 3. Open sun roof lid all the way and remove left and right sliding rails. 4. Lift off sun roof lid. Installation: 5. Lube with Anticorit PRC II using a piece of felt or brush attached to an extension. 6. Guide in sun roof lid from above and install sliding rails. 7. Continue installation in reverse sequence of removal. Doesn't mention anything about a broken handle. Photos indicate the handle comes out via a pin of some sort, that attaches to lever. CHECK THIS FIRST. It does go on about adjustments. stcbenz, PM me as this is involved.
