have you replace the timing chain on your 240d yet ?
Correct about the ac. The 240D in the US was regarded as a basic entry level car and thus did not warrant the supposedly superior Automatic climate control that the other Mercedes in the USA were equipped with.

My cars Compressor siezed about two years ago when it was still with it's previous owner. I bought it like that and was working on some ac related issues when I discovered that other problems with it.

I have not replaced the timing chain on my motor. My cars engine was rebuilt at about 160000 miles so it has at least 224000 miles on a rebuilt engine and if they replaced the timing chain at that time then it has 224K miles with that timing chain. If they used the original chain then it has 384000 miles on that chain. So chain durability on a 240D is not the problem it is on other cars such as the four cylinder gas cars that were not shipped to the USA, or the early 3,8 liter V8's that were.

One other thing. This forum is wonderful for technical information and assistance. But I treat peoples opinions on price with an ocean of salt. Everyone here seems to think you should be able to pick up perfect Mercedes for a few hundred bucks. That may be the case in some areas but in my opinion it's crap. Sometimes you have to pay for good stuff.
