Are you saying they are a little off or a lot off? Or is there some other obstruction causing it to not fit?

Your 1 1/16 socket is a metric equivalant of 26.9875mm, slightly small, but it should be OK unless the old ones are slightly oversize due to grime or rust or something.

Maybe try fitting a 27mm or 1 1/16 open-end on one of them for size so you can see what exactly is obstructing?
