This all reminds me of a recent experience my father had selling a car on Craigslist. This is not meant to scare you imagesinthewind, I'm sure your experience will be fine.
A few years ago, my dad bought a mid-60's Oldsmobile on a whim. It was running poorly and he got it for a song. He got it running well again and drove it around for a while as a fun car. It was in pretty good shape but certainly not pristine. Came time to get rid of it so he listed it on Craigslist, with an honest description of the condition (some rust, tires ok, interior funky, probably good for restoration, etc).
He gets a call from a guy in California (dad is in remote Eastern Washington) who is very interested and after asking lots of question tells my dad to consider it sold. A while later he calls to say he is coming to get it. He shows up with his buddy, and his parents from England. He and the buddy have flown up from California and the parents have flown from London to Seattle. They rent a car in Seattle and drive out to remote Eastern Washington, the four of them. The plan is to pick up the car, and have a fun drive back to Southern California, showing the English parents, the sites.
So my dad is thinking, wow, what an adventure, unknown 40 year old car and all. So the guy starts giving the car a good inspection, lifts up one of the floor mats and finds a rusted out hole, he is looking at the ground. He brings my dad over to show it to him. My dad turns white, he didn't know the hole was there (lets just say that the only thing that matters to my dad is whats under the hood). My dad immediately offers the buyer a significant price reduction (like 30-40%) but the guy says no, it looks like more than he wants to deal with, but thanks for your time and I hope I didn't inconvenience you, have a nice day. The four of them hop back in the rental car and drive off.
The car is still in his garage. Any body interested?
