While I was fixing an engine oil leak I decided to clean the plastic transmission belly pan that is used to protect the transmission from road grime and also lessens road noise. When I took the plastic belly pan down, I noticed that the foam on the inside of the belly pan was soaked with oil. When I touched the foam used to deaden noise, it just fell apart in my hands.
I called the local MB dealership and asked if they sold the belly pan. They said they would have to order it at a cost of $386
. I decided this is too much for a plastic belly pan.
My question to the group is are there alternatives to getting the foam replaced. I forgot to ask the dealership if they sold foam separately from the belly pan. Has anybody else replaced the foam?
