Hi
While I was fixing an engine oil leak I decided to clean the plastic transmission belly pan that is used to protect the transmission from road grime and also lessens road noise. When I took the plastic belly pan down, I noticed that the foam on the inside of the belly pan was soaked with oil. When I touched the foam used to deaden noise, it just fell apart in my hands. I called the local MB dealership and asked if they sold the belly pan. They said they would have to order it at a cost of $386 ![]() My question to the group is are there alternatives to getting the foam replaced. I forgot to ask the dealership if they sold foam separately from the belly pan. Has anybody else replaced the foam? Thanks Herb '82 240D '87 300SDL |

My first thought was wonder if you could cut/glue a hood pad like what is underneath the hood of the 240/300D to the tranny belly pan?

Jim,
I thought about that also, but the original thickness of the insulation foam is much thicker than a hood pad. Has anybody in the forum used a hood pad? Herb '82 240D '87 300SDL |

Bill,
That's a great idea! I think I'll pursue that. I'll head to Hancocks today or tomorrow and see what they've got. I hope they have the kind that have the egg-crate look to it. Thanks again! Herb '82 240D '87 300SDL |
