You shift with the clutch out?

What I mean is this, when I'm almost to the stoplight, I brake to a stop, after putting pushing the clutch in, then shift into first so I don't forget at take off and stall the thing, (not a happy experience) and I hear a whining sound sometimes when I'm doing that.

One question when I do change the fluid, and make sure there is no air in the lines, if that doesn't stop how extensive is it to put new sychos (whatever they are) on?
