If I were you I'd definitely look under the hood before unplugging wires under the passenger floor. I don't have much hands-on experience with W140s, but my 190E has a switch under the hood that is connected to the alarm. If you open the hood without deactivating the alarm it will sound. That would probably be a good place to start seeing as how your hood won't close completely.
