I think that's the real threat to him. Could be relatively smooth sailing - depends a lot on how he treated them, that is, whether or not any or many of them have residual bitterness. It would be an easy route to take methinks: at first I was sorta into it, then I felt pressured into continuing because he was my boss, etc.

If a number of women came forward with that account, could tarnish the regard he enjoys among his many fans, or possibly sour sponsors on associating their products with his name.

Reminds me of what a former landlord of mine, a retired US Army Lt. Col. once said: 'never screw around within a mile of the flagpole.' Letterman, I'm guessing, would have had many opportunities to meet up with available women who did not work for him. Then again, the camraderie one feels with a co-worker can lead to other things.

But I pretty much agree with remarks here about the downside of succumbing to a 2 bit extortionist. Jeez, the guy probably had a decent position, I would imagine a CBS producer position would have to be halfway lucrative - kiss that one goodbye. Guy even looks like a dunce.
