If DL gets fired, someone else will snap him up in milliseconds. He has a loyal following in the 10s of millions of fans, he is also a very wealthy man. Most fans expect or at least tolerate this kind of behavior from celebs for the reason that it is about 99% predictable.

Had DL folded, the fuk wad extortionist would have had a free license to come back again and again. Now the perp will likely go to jail after giving most of his income to attorneys, and no doubt also be fired from his cushy job.

If the perp wasn’t a toothless moron he would have just sold the move script and let the chips fall where they may.

If DL isn’t happy enough in the marriage to maintain fidelity then there would be no real loss to him by divorce. He certainly won’t lose access to his child and can probably replace everything he really cares about, even after giving half his estate to the ex. PLus he'd have no problem finding another GF.

I’d call Letterman’s solution an win win.

That said, I've never really cared about the lives of celebrity. At the end of the day wealth brings a level of contempt that puts most celebs in the category of sleaze bags. My dad called the phenomena “having too much fuk you money.” DL is obviously no different than the majority.
Lettermen will be smiling up until the sexual harassment lawsuits are filed by the platoon of women who now realize they were all being played by a Player.

Possibly, but we don't know how many and there is no law on their side. He clearly won’t cave to pressure, and he knew about that risks long ago. Plus given his job, he probably has at least a couple attorneys on payroll.

I think that's the real threat to him. Could be relatively smooth sailing - depends a lot on how he treated them, that is, whether or not any or many of them have residual bitterness. It would be an easy route to take methinks: at first I was sorta into it, then I felt pressured into continuing because he was my boss, etc.

If a number of women came forward with that account, could tarnish the regard he enjoys among his many fans, or possibly sour sponsors on associating their products with his name.

Reminds me of what a former landlord of mine, a retired US Army Lt. Col. once said: 'never screw around within a mile of the flagpole.' Letterman, I'm guessing, would have had many opportunities to meet up with available women who did not work for him. Then again, the camraderie one feels with a co-worker can lead to other things.

But I pretty much agree with remarks here about the downside of succumbing to a 2 bit extortionist. Jeez, the guy probably had a decent position, I would imagine a CBS producer position would have to be halfway lucrative - kiss that one goodbye. Guy even looks like a dunce.
