I'd say roll the chain on with the holes facing out, away from sprockets.

But IMHO, I bought a MB chain and got it put on for me. The indie would not install any chain that did not have the MBenz logo hologram on a sealed box to show it was genuine. Don't blame him, too much riding on it.
