Seriously, I hope that it gets straightened out as it is truly a joy of a car to own once sorted out.

I agree with your decision to not muddy the water with more changes (the bowden cable), something that many of us are guilty of.

Hard to say what the cause is, but the bouncing shutoff lever isn't normal. If removing the vacuum line changes it then you know that it's in the ignition switch/valve. The glowing I didn't really get, but it sure seems like something in the ignition switch might be not all of the way on or off.
