If you don't intend to go off-road, nor do the distance as a race, then any regular car will do as long as it's not too small, I'd say. I'm planning a two-month roadtrip myself for next year, driving from Amsterdam to Vladivostok, and back, following the Trans-Siberian Highway from Moscow. Last section from Irkutsk is now asphalt aswell (thanks Mr. Putin). I'm not buying another car for this trip, my regular 5-series will be fine. Hotels/motels/private rooms only, can't wait
