That's when the FSS system was started, and it turns out to seriously damage the engines if you use dino oil -- the oil turns to sludge before the computer decides it needs to be changed. Later models specify that synthetic must be used, or change the oil every 3000 miles or some such.
The opposite is true on some American cars -- damned oil change light comes on a week after you change the oil.....
