I'm not familiar at all with the tanks you guys get in the US - the ones that have an expansion thing on top of them (opposite side to the fuel level sender)... All I can say is that on my European tank (no alien expansion attachment) the vent line comes out from the same place under the tank as the return line (at this point it is a hard line) and then goes up and over the subframe and comes out to a weird rubber boot just in front of the driver's side rear wheel. There is only one vent on my tank (if you don't include the fill neck which possibly has some sort of secondary vent in the cap).
