On my OM617 engine (300CD) the thermo-vacuum valve is replaced by a brass pipe plug.

I also installed an EGR Delete Kit that removed the EGR valve, blocked off intake and exhaust with custom-made plates and gaskets and removed all associated vacuum lines. I think the cost of the kit was about $15.

The car runs smoother and cleaner now with less soot buildup.
