That is the return hose. It can be reused in a pinch, if you have enough slack that you can cut the end off and try pushing it on. However, that would only work if it's not old and hard, and it sounds like yours is (and it would only be a temporary repair option).

If it's that old, replace all of it. Any parts vendor who sells stuff for VWs or Mercedes might have it in stock. It's cheap.

Never apply undue force when installing or removing the hose. The spine on the nipples (which holds the hose in place) isn't as strong as it might look (voice of experience).

Use a knife to slit the end of the hose before pulling it off. If you need to use force to install the new hose, use long-reach pliers and apply the force above the portion of hose actually sliding onto the nipple as you go along.
