I Guess it could be, but I have read on other forums that the portion of the speedometer / odometer chip (UAF2115) that drives the odometer stepper motor (that drives the little gears) is prone to failure but the rest of the chip can continue to work. I only know a little about the electronics of the speedo, and know nothing about the reliability / failure modes of the mechanical portion(s). Sorry.
