You'd need to define "replaced the engine".

If the garage pulled the entire engine and replaced it with another engine, you can be reasonably OK with such work. There isn't a lot of brain work needed for such a swap and the performance of the replacment engine will be independent of the work done and dependent on the prior maintenance to that engine.

Now, if they decided to pull specific components off the existing engine and replace them, you can be reasonably confident that they screwed up a major component during the installation and it would be surprising if they could even get the engine to start when they finished.
