I've replaced a caliper when the slide bolt froze up...along with rotors and pads. Maybe cost $200 total, I don't recall.
The brakes have a self-test function, which occurs when doors are opened or other seemingly random times, so disconnecting the calipers when the computer is still enabled may be hazardous, but it takes about 5 seconds to disconnect the SBC brake computer.
I have 194k mi on mine, 64k by me. I paid $700 for the dealer to fix a wire in the airbag circuit (that I didn't want to tackle myself). Otherwise my repairs have all been DIY, maybe totalling $2k.
