Hydraulic pump on front of engine
Hi, I'm in the middle of a brake job and waiting for parts so decided to tackle some other obvious problems. I am new to the Mercedes Benz, but enjoying the way things are put together (and come apart). Problem right now is the finned cover on the pump that I think is for the hydraulic suspension is not seated onto the circular 'tuna can' part of the pump. It is obviously not in working order and that isn't the concern for now. I cant tighten the allen head bolts enough to get the cover to come up against the rest of it. I can pull all the bolts as they all backed out. I would like to seal it up with polyurethane gasket sealer or something. The engine is very greasy and dirty and I'm afraid crud has gotten in the pump. There is no sign of leakage at the pump as I think it is dry inside. So..... Here's my question. Can I pull the cover off, or the whole pump witout having a sprocket fall off inside the engine or a bunch of parts that wont go back in? Is there a rubber impeller in there or gear drive or what. Just dont want grit in there to seize the unused pump and lock up the timing chain. Don't see any service info in the chiltons or a search here. Sorry for such a long post.
