I'll post up some pictures of the bore - it is lightly polished - no "finger nail feelable" wear though. I get the impression that it is due to mucky engine oil sticking to the PTFE ring.

I know I'm being a bit tight fisted not buying the repair kit - but looking at the comparative cost of the bearings and metal arm and the cost of the non return valves for the older style vacuum pump (I assume they are the same) it seems as though that bit of PTFE ring with brass in it costs 70 euros! Bull sheet!
