He was within his legal right to carry a weapon and use deadly force if his life was in danger so that's a different argument.
We all understand that GZ would have probably never approached TVM had he not been armed. Had TVM been a fat and 5'7" tall (like GZ), he probably wouldn't have taken a running jump at beating 7 bells of ***** out of someone he didn't know, so the 'victim' has some responsibility.
A little bit of perspective: I grew up in London where guns don't really exist and are never considered in these types of confrontations. I went to school in not the best area and muggings were very common.
In most cases, muggers get away because police can't be everywhere and they pick victims that are not capable of putting up a fight.
One of my first observations when moving to the US is that this kind of street intimidation doesn't really exist. I can't help but attribute this to the fact that anyone young or old, frail or strong can carry concealed.
This is a tragedy, and that boys life was wasted. But let's not kid ourselves in thinking that a society without guns won't have it's own set of problems.
