The early paperboard cartons are much more efficient than the bottles.
You can clearly see the progression of printing techniques from the 60's to modern times.
I'm betting they went from the "doll" bottle to a "standard-style" bottle as a cost savings, and to increase their bottles per pallet (decreasing dead space within a case)
2011 shows what appears to be direct printing, but in 2013 we're back to a label? Unless 2011 was printed on clear film that doesn't show in the photo.
1997+ closure appears to be a standard closure, definitely a cost savings.
If you wanted to increase shelf presence consider a holographic print on your label(assuming litho/flexo), and possibly a custom closure.
Since the mold hasn't changed since 1997, it might be getting old-a new bottle design is always a good way to catch the customer's eye. Pricey, of course-but it may pay off in a per-piece cost savings if the current mold utilizes outdated technology.
