I'm convinced the Mercedes "expert" from whom I bought my 300D was responsible for this damage - probably used a screw driver to stop the valve spring cap from spinning by "just jamming it in there". He'd also installed the order of the rocker arms sets incorrectly which bends the rocker arm spindles and has the rocker arms / cam followers running on their corners on the cam surface.
