I'm 15 miles from my job, that means 0:25-1:30 drive one-way depending on how fussy the squirrels are that day. It's much more convenient to keep your coffee in the holder on the floor than balance it on one knee.
I'm ~500 miles from home, so when I go back to visit it's around 9-10hrs on the road, again-a place to sit a drink without having to fuss with it constantly.
I don't have cupholders on the motorcycle however
Plus, it's a great place to store screws while I take 6 months to replace a bulb behind the heater controls, etc.
