Too true - I am sure the tech aspects of the north Korean nuclear plants and the condition of their economy are only small parts of the overall picture. Much of what is really going on in the world is either witheld by governments for various reasons (foriegn policy/economic agendas, protecting sources/techniques, etc.) or is filtered and spun by media to promote news agendas and the slant of their particular paper/station, liberal or conservative.

Probably a lot of this is a heavy handed card played every few years by NK to wrest more concessions and economic aid from the South, Japan, China, and the West. Cards can be overplayed, however, and it is a dangerous game for both sides.
