There's an old tale in the Zen tradition about a master who was invited to a wedding to give his blessing. When it was his time he said:

"Grandfather die, father die, son die."

The guests were outraged, 'how could you bring up such a morbid thing at a wedding?'

He said, 'oh but it's a great tragedy when a son dies before his father. The natural order is a blessing.'

At which they all bowed.
