Last night was much warmer and went down to single digit (9 F) for only 1 hour. By the time I tried starting it was up to 17 F so I tried first w/o heating the fuel filter, gave it 30 seconds of glow and it started immediately and idled just fine

Safe to say the engine stalling after start yesterday was due to filter blockage from gelled fuel.
