I saw that on a set of Konis several years ago. If the shaft wasn't pulled all the way out, then pushed completely in before trying the adjustment, the mechanism wouldn't click or adjust. I have the sports on my C230 but haven't tried to adjust them off of the softest setting yet - it is pretty close the way it is, so I am waiting to the next rotation to see if I want to bump them up a notch.
