Hello all,

I bought a 1982 300SD that probably needs one of these (I am expecting to do it in a couple weeks).

I want to make sure I replace all the parts that may need it as I do this.

I have:

- an OEM IWIS timing chain
- a Mercedes timing chain riveter tool set


I figure I need

- all the chain rails (How many? I have heard two-three-four???)
- a new hydraulic chain tensioner
- a new valve cover gasket

What else? What about timing gears, especially the upper ones?

Help me out, please, I want to do this right.


The car has between 240-280,000 miles.


Have to redo the odometer too, lol.
