There are two issues at hand here which I don't think are being distinguished.

If you take a piece of sandpaper to an OEM finish MB-TEX or plastic, you can flake layer upon layer off and you will have a scuffed up, scratched area of the same OEM color. That is because the color finish penetrates the entire piece instead of sitting on top of it.

If you take a piece of sandpaper to a painted interior piece, it will come off in one piece. That is because you are relying on chemical adhesion on the surface layer only.

The other issue ... SEM vs. other brands. I don't really know. I'm sure some brands do adhere better than others, but my point is that the difference between aftermarket painted brands and OEM is still night and day.
