Good evening all

Today, I helped a buddy find and purchase a beautiful dark blue SDL. After picking the car up and driving around he noticed the miles where adding up at an excessive rate. After driving maybe 30ish miles, the odometer show roughly 100 miles had been traveled. This increase in milage is reflected on the odometer and the trip meter part of the odometer.

The car shows 355,000ish miles. Considering what has been discovered the actual milage may be much lower. The question is what should be the culprit? What should we check first? Any input is appreciated.
