I also ended up watching a video of the river rouge plant in Dearborn, maybe I have my nostalgia goggles on but, looks like good work.

I have a copy of "Autopolis" the 1934 movie made in France when Citroen built his new assembly plant that was the largest in Europe.
The company made all vehicles in the same plant and benefited from the interchangeability of a large number of parts, like all the IP controls on all trucks, no matter what size. Ditto with car parts. On the Tractions, front and rear doors were interchangeable, they just went on opposite sides.
The movie was held by a private company and copyrighted, kept out of the public for 70 years, but is now in the public domain.
You see how pistons and other parts were made from basic materials in the 1930s, it's an amazing movie.
