The ex Volkswagon service manager told me that basically all the engines where not properly tuned when sold. A good dealer could improve them.
They had four Passat diesel buybacks in stock the day we got the Passat. He suggested this one of the four. He had drove it and thought it was set up well. He also was pretty insistent that we use only the high test diesel in it.
Not available at all in America. Not scarce in Canada but not found everywhere by a long shot. He said our fuel millage improvement alone are worth the small additional cost. There are nominal differences in the tdi engine used in the Passat as well. Why I have no ideal.
The fuel milage some of you are reporting makes me wonder if these engines do not like normal north American diesel. The wives Passat with far more rolling resistance easily does better than the old 2006 diesel tdi Jetta I drive. That has a manual transmission.
The high test diesel we use has several detergents and a celane booster they claim. I fuel the old 2006 with the only diesel available at another station as it is some what cheaper there. Perhaps I will try some of the high test diesel in it. The detergents possibly keep the injectors cleaner.
