[QUOTE=Fulcrum525;4094119]I'm not saying that you are wrong but do you have any links to articles on the subject of GM cheating emissions? I'd be curious to read up on it.
Can't find any links, just google selling propaganda I do know vw tdi fuel economy was always rated LOWER than reality, and GM fuel economy was rated HIGHER that reality - basically helping GM sell cars over VW by lying to the people. GM couldn't compete so they just lied. People still loved the TDI's so they got the government to railroad VW with the "emission scandal". Meanwhile, GM got free money to stay in business and never improved any of their designs. Probably just hitting up mercedes for easy extortion after what they did to VW. My dad bought a 2012 equinox that claimed to get 30mpg and it NEVER gets that. The real emission scandal is that most people driving cars that still get around 20mpg because that is what is sold to them. Junkyards are overflowing with them.

[QUOTE=t walgamuth;4094585]Same here....I had a 2013 TDI wagon from brand new to just under 10k miles and I think the BEST it ever did was around 34, usual average was mid 20's, sometimes dipping lower in winter.
Significantly worse than my GLK250, and it was a far lighter car, manual trans, better aerodynamics, smaller tires, and no 4 wheel drive....and 68 less HP. It did regens....a LOT...every few hundred miles or so. Way more often than my GLK does....which is probably every 700-900 miles based on what I've noticed. It was a terrible vehicle, hence my dumping it at a year/10k miles. Thankfully hardly any financial hit because they were a hot commodity at the time and I bought another vehicle from the same dealer to replace it. ('05 C240 Wagon, which was awesome) Just drove my GLK 158 miles today at 80+mph and it netted 33.7mpg

You can tell it would be happy doing 100+ all day long....barely even has to try at those speeds...stays happily in 7th gear the entire time.

[QUOTE=t walgamuth;4094585]
The ex Volkswagon service manager told me that basically all the engines where not properly tuned when sold. A good dealer could improve them. They had four Passat diesel buybacks in stock the day we got the Passat. He suggested this one of the four. He had drove it and thought it was set up well. He also was pretty insistent that we use only the high test diesel in it. Not available at all in America. Not scarce in Canada but not found everywhere by a long shot. He said our fuel millage improvement alone are worth the small additional cost. There are nominal differences in the tdi engine used in the Passat as well. Why I have no ideal. The fuel milage some of you are reporting makes me wonder if these engines do not like normal north American diesel. The wives Passat with far more rolling resistance easily does better than the old 2006 diesel tdi Jetta I drive. That has a manual transmission. The high test diesel we use has several detergents and a celane booster they claim. I fuel the old 2006 with the only diesel available at another station as it is some what cheaper there. Perhaps I will try some of the high test diesel in it. The detergents possibly keep the injectors cleaner. |
