Look at and drive everyone that comes up in your area for sale. The fella asking $6k is a nut. You could always offer him $2500 and see what happens. Walk away if he does not want to talk after the offer.
You will like an early 80's SD better than a Honda
. I would recommend though that you purchase it with the plans of learning how to do all your own work/repairs.
