I was looking at turbo and injection pump upgrades. The donor car has over 300,000 miles and a leaky head gasket.
I'd like a quick spooling turbo. Making boost/power by 1500 to 1900 rpms would be optimal.
The stock engine was originally making maybe 180 hp and 250 ft lbs of torque, a 450 lbs 4.0 v8.

Given the points that the OP deems important, and the unknown condition of the donor engine, a pause may be in order. Many of us, with an engine and a vehicle already in hand, have tended to develop a case of tunnel vision over the possibility of combining the two. If 250 ft/lbs. @ 1600-2700 rpm is the measure, please stop. An OM612 is the starting point. What the 4-valve engine starts with is difficult to achieve in a 2-valve engine.
In a high rpm, narrow range racing situation horse power is a meaningful metric; outside of that situation we drive torque, not HP.
