I bought a unit from Northern Tool that gives me up to 2400 psi at 3 gallons per minute. Now, that's almost enought to strip paint, but you can reduce the pressure either with the unloader valve or by throttling the engine back. I use it to pressure wash everything (except my teeth). I would suggest that you analyze how you would expect to use the unit and buy accordingly. Here in the mountains, I pressure wash my log cabin prior to oiling, ditto the decks. At my winter digs, I use it to clean the carport floor and, with reduced pressure, the slump brick outside walls.
If all I wanted it for was to clean engines and the bugs off the front of the car, I probably would have gone with one of the lesser expensive units.
